New Delhi: Following the launch of Mi Max, the latest
handset from Xiaomi for the Indian market, the third-largest smart phone maker has
decided to get in touch with some of the Indian state governments to set up
handset manufacturing hubs in the nation.
During the launch of Mi Max at an event in New Delhi's
Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday Xiaomi Indian head Manju Jain said that
the company will start a production plant in collaboration with contract
manufacturer Foxconn.
“We are looking to expand capacity and set up more lines
and plants. We are proactively looking at it and are working with our partner
Foxconn. Currently, discussions are on with different governments,” Jain
said. Reports are that the first batch of orders for Mi Max will be imported from
china. Xiaomi will start its domestic production of the device around mid-July.
On Thursday, Xiaomi has unveiled price, specifications and
other details of Mi Max, manufactured especially for the market of Indian
subcontinent. The smart phone was launched in a similar manner with that of
china’s where a host of ‘Mi fans’ were invited for the first look.
However, sources said, the phone launch program has
experience an untimely situation when few of the fans inside the stadium
started sloganeering ‘Xiaomi hai hai’.
