Kolkata: The Urban Development Department on Monday has
asserted that the ramp over the Park Circus Crossing connecting AJC Bose road
and Parama Flyover will get opened for two way traffic again from the middle of
July. According to EXIN Times sources, the ramp will be 950 meter long and will
allow the Bypass-bound vehicles to avoid the traffic at the Park Circus seven
point crossing.
EXIN Times also has noted that Chief Minister Mamata
Banerjee is very likely to inaugurate the Parama flyover ramp on mid-July,
probably on July 15. The Urban Development Department has completed the work
over the ramp except an 80-meter stretch above the Park Circus crossing. The
small portion will be cast in the presence of urban development minister Firhad
Hakim and senior engineers of CMDA and HCC. CMDA is implementing agency of the
project while HCC is a Mumbai-based company executing The Parama Ramp.
Parama bypass was opened on last October by Chief Minister
Mamata Banerjee. The flyover has the word Ma
christened over it. The 500-crore project is a 4-km long stretch with two
descending arms on the Bypass. The traffic police of the city allow
Bypass-bound vehicles to use Parama flyover between 9 am and 9 pm to prevent
congesting at the Park Circus seven-point crossing. The new arm, said as Parama
ramp, would merge with the flyover on Bypass near Topsia police station., EXIN
Times reports asserted.
“Over the next few weeks, work on the Bypass-bound ramp
will be finished. We would ask the traffic police to make arrangements to allow
two-way traffic on the flyover once the ramp opens. It would reduce travel time
from Maidan to Bypass from half-an-hour now to about 12 minutes. The traffic
load on the seven-point crossing will reduce, thereby allowing speedier
vehicular movement between Entally and Gariahat,” said a senior official to
EXIN Times.
Sources said, the new ramp of Parama flyover is a follow-up
of the second-time selection of TMC in the state. CM Banerjee has stressed to complete
all the unfinished flyovers, bridges and ramps after his selection in the
Assembly Election since Vivekananda flyover collapsed at Posta.
