Majuli Disjointed From Nearest Jorhat after Brahmaputra Flowing Above the Danger Level

Guwahati: Following the rapid tides and increased water levels of Brahmaputra, the Majuli Island is cut off from the rest of the world. The situation is a result of the heavy rain in the north-eastern parts of the nation that have increased the water level of the river, also the lifeline of the inhabitants of the Majuli Island.\


Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who was elected from Majuli in the state Assembly, said that his government would pursue for the best. Majuli is the largest river island on a riverbed with more than 1.52 lakh population who are connected with the rest of the world by waterways, will also be campaigned in a tourist-friendly manner, to cut short the island’s problem.
We had to suspend plying of ferry boats and other vessels between Nimatighat and Majuli after the Brahmaputra had crossed the danger level on Thursday morning. While the water level has slightly receded later in the day, boats are likely to ply on Friday,” Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni Aparaji Korati said. She noted that half of the people from Majuli travel to Jorhat on daily basis for livelihood.
