Heavy Rains Lash Sub-Himalayan West Bengal

Coochbehar: Heavy rains lashed parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal as the India Meteorological Department, also known as Met department on Wednesday forecasted more downpour in the region, while some areas of Gangetic West Bengal received one or two spells of rain.



Coochbehar received the highest rainfall at 165 mm since yesterday, the MeT department said.
While neighbouring Jalpaiguri district received 20.8 mm rainfall, the hill-town of Darjeeling received 7.2 mm rain.
Bankura recorded the day’s highest temperature at 35.5 degrees Celsius, with Kolkata following at 35.2 degrees Celsius. Places like Bankura, Burdwan, Asansol and Sriniketan received scant rainfall since yesterday.
Train services over Teesta river railway bridge suspended temporarily, due to heavy rains in catchment area of bridge.
The Met department has forecast heavy rains for the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri in the next two days.
It has forecast partly cloudy sky with possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm in the next two to three days.
Monsoon 2016 is getting stronger and dynamic with each passing day. The Southwest Monsoon has finally reached Gujarat and entered into some more parts of Madhya Pradesh. The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) now passes through Veraval, Surat, Ratlam, Jhansi, Lucknow, Pantnagar, Dehradun, Una and Jammu. Besides West Bengal, incessant rains have also lashed Sikkim, Bihar, East and Central Uttar Pradesh. Panaji in Goa and Honavar in Karnataka recorded 155.8 mm and 114.8 mm of rainfall respectively. Monsoon ventured into extreme southern parts of Gujarat. In the coming days, the Monsoon rains are expected to grow more exponentially. By the end of June, northern plains of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi are expected to be in the grip of Southwest Monsoon.
