After Rio and France, Facebook Live Showed Killing of Chicago-Guy, Questions over Using Live Video Usage Heightened

Chicago: A 28-year-old man, Antonio Perkins, was shot dead and killed during a live streaming of Facebook video, a feature recently added by the world-famous social media platform, on Friday. Antonio Perkins was shot in his head and neck during the video shooting. As he was taken to a nearby city hospital, he was announced brought dead.

With this death and killing of Perkins, questions regarding the safety notes have aroused worldwide. Perkins’ death took place just a day after a double-homicide in France happened and the killer took to Facebook Live in order to encourage more violence.
Another incident at Rio, raping a 16-year-old girl by more than 30 men last month was also uploaded on YouTube, a prominent misuse of the tools of technological advancements.
With these incidences under spotlight, it highlights the immense challenges the social media companies, such as Facebook Inc, Twitter Inc and Google's YouTube face ‘as they push live video streaming to hundreds of millions of people,’ however, with a different cause. Facebook Live feature was introduced by the social media site recently where one can broadcast a video of real time. Users will be able to stream those videos from their smartphone.
The video screening Perkins, showed that he is standing infront of a group of people where suddenly someone fired him. The phone started to tremble and then showed the blood stains on the grass.
The Facebook authority said that the video is still in the site, but with a warning message. a spokesperson from the social media site said that posting a video does not violate the company policy, but they will remove it if the video ‘celebrates or glorifies violence.’
