Washington: US President Barack Obama’s controversial plan
of sparing millions of undocumented immigrants from deportation from a vote
resulted into a tie on Thursday. Yesterday, the eight-member court divided into
four each but had not disclosed the details of the voting process. This
ultimately led to ‘effective killing of the plan.’
Reports are that President Obama upset with the ruling said
it is ‘frustrating to those who want to bring rationality to the immigration
system.’ “For more than two decades now, our immigration system ... has been
broken, and the fact that the Supreme Court was not able to issue a decision
today doesn't just set the system back even further, it takes us further from
the country that we aspire to be,” he added.
Reports are that the ruling will impact over more than 4
million undocumented immigrants in the US who is seeking a shelter and have
came out of their house years ago. Application of the program was a relief for
those who had applied for the program to stay in the United States. The program
was announced by the President late in 2014 but Texas, along with 25 other
state, challenged the plan. It was followed by they were blocked nationwide by
a federal district court the next year.
Presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton, upset with the
ruling, asserted that the Supreme Court not only needs a ninth justice but also
‘the delay of Obama's immigration programs adds importance to putting a
Democrat in the White House to continue the fight to put them in place.’
“Today's deadlocked decision from the Supreme Court is
unacceptable, and shows us all just how high the stakes are in this election,”
Clinton said on Thursday morning while tweeted the ruling as ‘heartbreaking.’
