Seoul: North Korea’s malicious and unlawful activities
reached at a new height as they hacked more than 140,000 computers at South
Korean conglomerates and government agencies. Reports are that North Korea had
also inserted wicked codes and passwords that are assumed to have been planted
for a massive cyber attack in South Korea.
On Monday, according to a recent development of the cyber
attack that has been ‘thwarted,’ it was said that the hacking was originated
from the North Korean capital Pyongyang and targeted a software used by more
than 160 companies and government agencies to manage their computer networks.
The South Korean police asserted that, ‘the internet
address was identical to the one used in a 2013 cyber attack against South
Korean banks and broadcasters that froze their computer systems for more than a
week.’ Police also said that the South Korean authority had allegedly blamed
the North for this attack. The nation has been on ‘heightened alert’ due to the
cyber attacks by North Korea. However, the north had denied any wrongdoing from
their end.
The South Korean authority stated that their spy agency had
predicted a mass cyber crime in the country in March. The report then asserted
that the north has worked for years to intercept in the system that controls
telecommunications and other similar services.
