Kolkata: A nine-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a
railway attendant inside a moving train on Saturday night, minutes after the
train left Howrah station. The girl was travelling in the AC compartment of the
Paharia express with five-family members. Paharia express goes to New Jalpaiguri
from Digha, via Howrah, once in a week, on Saturdays.
According to the EXIN Times reports, the girl was returning
to her home town New Jalpaiguri after spending part-summer vacation to a
relative’s place at Kolkata. The 42-year-old accused, later identified as Naren
Rajbangshi, had called the minor girl and molested her while talking to her.
The family members said that the accused was wearing black pant and white shirt
and molested the girl when she went to the wash basin near the vestibule with
her 11-year-old cousin brother.
Following the shameful incident, the girl went to her
parents and said they about the molestation. Family members and parents of the
girl had lodged a complaint against Rajbangshi at the Bandel railway station.
A senior officer of the GRP (Government Railway Police)
said EXIN Times: “Her uncle was speaking to the ticket examiner when he noticed
the man molesting the girl. He ran up to him and confronted him but the
assailant fled down the vestibule.” However, the family had complained against
other railway employees also, who ‘behaved in a laid-back manner and helped Rajbangshi
to flee the spot.’
