Kolkata: A 52-year-old man was arrested in Kolkata on
Monday for making a phone call to the West Bengal state secretariat Nabanna, which is also the office of
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Aniruddha Ghosal was arrested from his Kalighat
residence late on Monday in connection with a hoax call, as police sources from
Lalbazar, the police headquarter of the city, has asserted.
According to EXIN Times sources, the police have arrested
Ghosh and had lodged complaint against him of committing an offence against the
State or against the public tranquility, section 505 of the Indian Penal Code
(IPC).
“One Aniruddha Ghosh of Kalighat Road was arrested from his
residence in connection with the hoax call made at control room regarding bomb
being planted at Nabanna. The mobile used to make that hoax calm has been
seized. He will be produced today before the Court,” said senior police officer
from Lalbazar.
Ghosh was arrested locating his mobile phone signals but
police found nothing suspicious against him. However, they are checking past records
of Aniruddha if he had any criminal history.
On Thursday at around 3 pm, Nabanna received a call saying that a bomb is placed in the
building. Immediately Kolkata and Howrah Police’s Chief Officers, along with
bomb squad and team of sniffer dogs reached Nabanna
and started search operation. Minutes later, police confirmed the call as
hoax.
The city is already under strict security as neighboring
country Bangladesh is stormed with a terrorist attack that killed more than 26
people, including many from countries like Korea and Japan. A threat call to Nabanna amid this has increased tension.
