Kolkata: West
Bengal Minister of Education Partha Chatterjee has announced plans to form a
monitoring committee for private higher educational institutes and varsities.
He also confirmed that the Ministry is working on a Vision document.
Speaking at
the inauguration of an education fair for engineering and technology colleges,
Chatterjee said: “We are implementing plans to form the panel to inspect
private institutes.”The committee will lay special emphasis on inspecting
quality of education and infrastructure of the varsities. “We will not tolerate
any private institute which violates the norms and regulations set down by the
AICTE,” he added.
On being
asked about the education vision document, Chatterjee said: “We are currently
working on it. It will be published soon.” The document will reportedly review
the status of the primary and higher educational institutions of the State and
prepare a vision for the education sector of the State for the next 5-10 years.
To promote
the quality of education and infrastructure of the education sector in the
State, the Education Ministry is contemplating the establishment of “new law
and mining colleges in the state.” Chatterjee added that his Ministry is also
undertaking “programs to promote English and training in computers in the
State-run schools.”
At a recent
education fair, Ajoy Kr. Roy, the Director of the Indian Institute of
Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) said that an industrial-academia
meet has been proposed for the near future. “The meet will showcase the
research and projects done by students from institutions across Bengal,” said
Roy. Industrialists, venture capitalists and other investors will be invited.
