Kolkata:
New changes are coming in for Kolkata metro as it will soon witness mobile
connectivity inside tunnels and 13 new air-conditioned rakes this year.
Mobile
connectivity inside tunnels of the Kolkata Metro railways is expected to be
provided before pujas this year, an official statement said on Wednesday. “Mobile
connectivity inside tunnels is expected to be provided before pujas 2016,” said
the Kolkata Metro railways statement.
The
authority will increase frequency of trains during evening peak hours from
eight minutes to six minutes while wifi facilities will be provided at 17 metro
stations from Dum Dum to Tollygunj (Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) by June 15, it said.
At present, wifi is available in two stations - Park Street and Maidan - only. The
city metro railway also said at present 278 services are available between Dum
Dum to Tollygunj, but will go up to 300 from August 1 after commissioning of
the third platform.
“These
services will be introduced during evening peak hours,” Metro
spokesperson Indrani Banerjee said, adding, “At present the frequency of
trains is eight minutes during evening peak hours which will come down to six
minutes, she added.
The
Metro railway will also get a delivery of 13 new air-conditioned rakes from
China starting from June next year to augment its services. “The Metro
Railway will get delivery of 13 air conditioned rakes starting from June, 2017.
The rakes from Dalian in China will have coaches with ultra-modern facilities,”
Banerjee said.
