11 IAS Officers Reshuffled In West Bengal

Kolkata: A day after re-shuffle in the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre, the West Bengal government today affected a reshuffle of 11 Indian Administrative service (IAS) officers. 
V Lalithalakshmi, joint secretary in land and land reforms department, will be the new district magistrate of Jalpaiguri in place of Pritha Sarkar, officials said. Sarkar on the other hand has been made additional secretary in land and land reforms department. 
IAS Arnab Roy, who was the principal secretary in the school education department, has been transferred to the environment department in the same post with additional charge of fire and fire services department. Dushyant Nariala has been sent to the school education department. Municipal Commissioner Khalil Ahmed will hold additional charge of the housing department. Onkar Singh Meena, secretary of health and family welfare department, will be secretary in the municipal affairs department.

Civil services of India are categorized into three main categories namely: Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS). An IAS officer can be given a key position and responsibility in central government, state government and public sector undertaking companies. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) looks after the recruitment process of civil services. The candidate will have to successfully go through the three phases of selection process namely preliminary exam, main exam and interview round. General category student can give maximum four attempts, OBC category candidate can apply for maximum seven attempts while there is no restrictions on number of attempts to a SC/ST category candidate. Upper age limit for SC/ST candidate is maximum 35 years while to a general category candidate it has been set to 30 years. It is mandatory for state governments to consult Union government before taking any disciplinary action against an IAS officer.
