New Delhi: Former director of the Indian cricket team has
resigned for his post in the International Cricket Council’s committee as a
media representative. Reports are that the former cricket all-rounder has
undertaken this step due to the recent spat regarding the selection process of
the head coach of the national cricket team with Saurav Ganguly.
The 54-year-old, who was the Director of the Indian cricket
team until the end of the World Twenty20 campaign, was one among the top 21
aspirants who wanted to be the head coach of team India. Former bowler Anil
Kumble was selected as the apex coach of the team afterwards by the BCCI committee
comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.
“I have already submitted my resignation. There are
personal commitments and I have been there for six years,” Shastri said when
asked about his decision of stepping down from the post. However, according to
official sources, amid his busy schedule as commentator, TV expert and columnist,
Shastri’s resignation from the post was widely publicized.
While ICC sources have asserted Ravi Shastri as an
‘emotional’ man who takes impulsive decisions, it is also being speculated that
the recent broiler resulted into Shastri’s resignation. On thrusday, Ganguly,
irritated by the continuous ‘personal charges’ by Ravi Shastri, said that ‘he
is living in a fool’s world.’
