Kolkata: The Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur
(IIT) had announced that they had formed a Centre for Science of Happiness. The
centre, once started, will help students to ‘embrace more happiness’ but
research in this field will continue, as EXIN Times sources have stated.
The idea of making the students happy first came to alumnus
Satinder Singh Rekhi, who wanted to develop ‘happy technocrats.’ Though
IIT-Kharagpur is quite famous in its own genre for creating ‘meaningful life,
happiness, wellbeing, holistic self-development and positive growth by
promoting interaction among students, faculty members and campus community,’
the centre is a step forward to the initiative.
Damodar Suar, who is in charge of coordinating the centre,
said: “The centre seeks to develop courses, research and training that
scientifically explore the science of happiness.” He also added that the
project was proposed to name after the ex-student as Rekhi Centre for Science
of Happiness.
EXIN Times sources said that the first international
workshop on the `Science of Happiness' will be conducted in August 2016. Also,
Rekhi will be one among the foremost sponsors and will be the chairman of the
workshop. The project is likely to cost $1 million to set up the centre over a
period of three years.
