Los
Angeles: American singer, songwriter Katy Perry became the first person to
cross the 90 million followers’ mark on Twitter on Friday.
Twitter
announced the huge milestone with a tweet. “It’s party time, @katyperry!
With 90 million on the guest list, we’re gonna need a really big dance floor,”
the social media network wrote. “Dang this is tight,” the 31-year-old
singer responded, adding a cool emoji with sunglasses and a smirk.
The
singer left Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift in the digital dust
by reaching that milestone, which officially made her the most-followed person
on Twitter on the entire planet and the first user to ever reach that
lofty figure. Preently, Bieber had 83.9 million followers and Swift was just
behind at 79 million.
Her
fans — known as KatyCats — were quick to join in the celebrations - with one
even suggesting all 90 million should have a slumber party at Katy’s
house. While another fan simply defined her as the ‘Queen of Twitter’.
The Firework,
Teenga Dream, Roar, ET, California Gurls, Dark Horse, I Kissed A Girl, This Is
How We Do, etc hitmaker joined Twitter in February 2009 and has posted
nearly 7,000 tweets to date.
The superstar also made internet history
when her music video for Dark Horse became the first video by a female artist
to reach 1 billion views on Vevo. The following month, her music video for Roar
reached 1 billion views on Vevo, making her the first artist to have multiple
videos with one billion views.
Unlike many who boost their accounts by
following a lot of people themselves, Katy only finds it necessary to follow 160
people on her Twitter account. Those Katy follows include Hillary, Sam
Smith, Iggy Azalea and Dalai Lama, among others.
