Kashmir Violence: Death Toll Rises To 32

Srinagar: With the Kashmir violence escalating every day, the death toll has now risen to 32.

When the situation was looking better, another casualty in the border district of Kupwara reversed the gains of the day, even as J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti in a televised address assured investigation into the allegation of excessive force.
Police said a mob attacked the police station and set on fire a vehicle in which some policemen got trapped at Kralpora village of Kupwara. “While dealing with the situation, one person was injured who later on succumbed to his injuries,” said a police spokesman.
With the fresh killing in Kupwara, the death toll has climbed to 32 in Kashmir since the unrest began after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani at Kokarnag on Friday. Of the 32 people killed, 30, including a cop, were killed in four districts of south Kashmir. One each was killed in Kupwara and Srinagar.
Thousands of people thronged Burhan’s hometown of Tral to mark his Rasm-e-Chahrum (fourth day). Defying curfew, thousands of people from different areas of Kashmir marched to his Sharifabad village of Burhan to offer special prayers for him. The town was painted with the pro-Burhan graffitis with people raising pro-azadi slogans.
Police said the situation in the valley remained under control though some incidents of arson and mob attacks were reported on Tuesday.
Police said the stray and intermittent incidents of stone pelting were reported from Tral, Nowdal, Gadbugh, Batnag and other places across Kashmir.
