New Delhi: On Monday,
Air India has made dual-announcement saying that it will launch
Ahmadabad-London-Newark flight from August 15 and Delhi-Madrid from December;
and will expand its fleet size in the next four years to 232 flights.
“We have launched a number of new flights. We
have already launched flights from Delhi for San Francisco and Vienna. Next
year we are planning to launch five-six more flights, including Washington,
Scandinavian countries and Africa. We are heading towards growth,” said Air
India Chairman Ashwini Lohani in a program at Bhopal.
When asked about AI’s
step to facilitate profitability, he said that AI currently has a total of 133
flights, but plans to increase its fleet size up to 232 in the next four years.
the company, as stated by the Chairman, is currently planning to enhance connectivity
and ‘boost’ tourism for Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. This initiative will incorporate
Kolkata, Raipur, Indore, Jaipur and Delhi and also Bhopal with Indore and Ahmadabad,
as reports asserted.
Air India is
currently facing few issues with Dreamliner planes. AI has ordered 27 Dreamliner
planes and has received only 21. However, Lohani had pointed out the importance
of increasing connectivity too, saying that the company is planning to make an
airlines hub in Bhopal.
