Kolkata: According to the India Meteorological Department,
monsoon has reached north Bengal on Tuesday and is making a speedy arrival to the southern parts of the state. The
weatherman said that the city will get a rainy weekend and thus this year’s
monsoon will come to the state. EXIN Times sources said that the monsoon wind
was struck over the Bay of Bengal for last five days, but yesterday morning it covered
the Northeast and the north Bengal districts of Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri,
Alipurduar and parts of Darjeeling.
The Deputy Director General of Indian Meteorological
Department has asserted: “We expect the northern limit of the monsoon to reach
Calcutta, along with the rest of south Bengal, between Saturday and Sunday.”
“The city and adjoining areas will get sporadic rain till the arrival of the
monsoon,” he added. However, the city and neighboring parts of Gangetic west
Bengal has experienced heavy rainfall in the last-48-hours.
As EXIN Times sources has reported, the monsoon rains are heavier
and frequent if compared to pre-monsoon rains. Pre-monsoon showers are a result
of thunderstorm, while monsoon downpour is caused by monsoon winds. The city is
experiencing pre-monsoon rains since the start of June. An senior officer of
IMD stated that the early morning showers on Tuesday was a typical pre-monsoon
shower that ended the sultry first week of June.
Reports are that the Met Office, apart from forecasting
heavy rains in this weekend also had mentioned a cyclonic circulation over the
Bay of Bengal and are likely to form this Friday. The weather department has
said that -maximum temperature was 30-degrees Celsius on Tuesday, four notches
below normal more than Monday's maximum. The maximum temperature might rise but
would stay around the normal mark of 34 degrees this week.
