President Obama to Meet Dalai Lama at White House on Wednesday

Washington: The US President Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama will meet at White House on Wednesday. Reports are that the move taken by both of the leaders is sure to infuriate the Chinese government, as they have for long termed the exiled spiritual leader as a ‘dangerous separatist.’

“In the morning, the President will meet with His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the White House,” said the White House authorities. The Dalai Lama is on a visit of the US now and will meet the President in the Map Room of the White House. “As a revered figure to Tibetans and people around the world, His Holiness reminds us of our great responsibility to act to safeguard human rights, promote equality and protect our environment,” stated Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi.
Usually the US Presidents meet the Dalai Lama once they pay a visit to the American capital. Reports are that despite of America’s belief that Tibet is an integral part of China, every meeting with the Dalai Lama angers the Chinese Government.
Meanwhile after declaring the meeting, China has lodged ‘diplomatic representations’ with the US over the meeting and said that the meeting will damage the US-Chinese ties. According to the Foreign Ministry, the meeting is very likely to send wrong messages to China.
