Rape Victim Identifies Accused

Kolkata: The 24-year-old Nepali woman who was allegedly gang raped by four in a moving car at Salt Lake sector V on Monday, has identified all the three accused on Thursday. The victim girl, as reported, has identified all of the criminals within eight minutes during an identification parade at Dum Dum Central Jail.


The jail officials said that the victim identified Subhendu Nag (26), Sourav Dey (20), and Arnab Bera (25), without any hesitation among the 24 men who were lined up there with similar stature. Sources said that the fourth person, who was part of the assault, is still absconding. The identification process started at 2 pm on Thursday under the observation of the deputy jailor.
A person, who is accused of some crime and is in judicial custody, has to go through an identification parade before to be produced to the court. The accused of the salt lake crime will be produced to the magistrate on Tuesday. “If the court gives us custody now, we will be able to interrogate them further and find out the whereabouts of the fourth accused. We will file the charge sheet as early as possible,” said the deputy commissioner of the detective department in the Bidhannagar commissionerate, Kankar Prasad Barui.
Police officers investigating the case noted that there are times when the assaulted hesitates to identify the accused who are at police custody. However, the 24-year-old woman immediately identified the criminals making it easy for the police to continue the investigation process. The three people, with the absconding one, had gang raped the woman at a car in Sector V, Salt Lake and then dumped her to a deserted street in Baisakhi more area of Salt Lake. Bidhannagar police identified all four and arrested three of them within 24 hours from the CCTV footage.
