French Open: Serena, Djokovic qualified for semifinals

Paris: Tennis great Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams enters into the semi finals at the French Open on Thrusday. Also Djokovic reached his 30th Grand Slam semifinal at Ronald Garros yesterday ‘to move two wins away from a first French title and a career Grand Slam.’



On Thursday’s match, Djokovic, the 29 year-old tennis icon swept seventh seeded Tomas Berdych 6-3 7-5 6-3. Reports are with this, Berdych bids to win his first title at Rolland Garros ‘and complete the career Grand Slam.’ Djokovic will play the final against Dominic Thiem of Austria. Quite contented with this win, Djokovic said: “It’s the quarterfinal of a Grand Slam, always a difficult match to play tactically.” He is a three-time runner-up in Paris whose quarterfinal was played out in a damp chill where temperatures slumped to 12 degrees.


On the other, the 34-year-old Serena Williams won after struggling against Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva, coming through 5-7 6-4 6-1. Also, Serena is playing the 22nd Grand Slam title of her career that equals Steffi Graf, as a woman tennis player.
