Kolkata: West Bengal Government along with the railway
officials on Monday emphasized that they vow a proper ‘way out’ to the rehabilitation
problem ‘that is holding back’ the Noapara-Dakshineswar Metro project, as
asserted by the sources of EXIN Times. The railway officials on Monday met
chairpersons of different municipality areas those are colliding with the line
of the proposed metro wing. The meeting, also attended by the CMDA officials,
was promised to find a solution of the rehabilitation issue.
Reports are that more than 200 residents of
Adarshanagar are occupying a 4.5 bigha
plot preventing the construction of metro pillars for the Dakshineswar metro
wing. The residents will be rehabilitated to neighboring Rajib Nagar. Adarshanagar is
an area under the Kamarhati Municipality. In this context, Chairman of
Kamarhati Municipality Gopal Saha said: “A few months ago, residents of
Adarshanagar moved to court saying the land belonged to their cooperative
society. We are trying to find a way out.”
According to EXIN Times reports, the Noapara-Dakshineswar
Metro project has been stuck since 2010 for land encroachment. Contractor Senbo-Tantia
suspend their initiative too following Rail Vikas Nigam Limited’s (RVNL)
‘failure to move’ the residents. This was followed by a renewed contractor to
Simplex in 2014 with a deal of more 130 crore.
Later on 2015, the state government initiated to ‘make way
for construction of pillars’ for the proposed metro wing. Also, Kamarhati,
baranagar and south dum dum municipalities were distributed RS. 25 crore each
to rehabilitate 932 families from the encroached lands, EXIN Times reported. “We
have told government officials that it would be difficult to complete the Metro
projects in the absence of a clear political will,” RNVL officials said.
Yesterday’s meeting also had discussions about the Joka-BBD metro project,
another metro wing kept on hold due to land encroachments and rehabilitation
issues.
