Montreal: Britain’s Lewis Hamilton on Sunday won the fifth
Canadian Grand Prix of his career and paid tribute to boxing-great Muhammad
Ali, who passed away at June 3. Hamilton won the title after cutting Mercedes
teammate Nico Roseberg’s championship lead to nine points.
Following his victory over the tough competition, Hamilton
said in a radio interview that, “Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
That’s for Muhammad Ali.” As he took the chequered
flag at a Cold Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Hamilton paid his winning tribute to
Mohammad Ali, whose funeral was made only on Saturday: “I was just floating out
there, the car was really floating. The last 15 laps all I could do was think
of him (Ali). The Rumble in the Jungle. Maybe he was watching the race. But
RIP. This was for him.”
Reports are that the British Mercedes F1 driver drove
against Ferrari F1 driver Sebastian Vettel to win the race on Sunday. The race
saw an excellent start of the race as Vettel overtook both Hamilton and
Roseberg. Hamilton, who started the race as a defending F1 champion, won his
first win of the year two weeks ago at Monaco defeating Vettel.
