Srinagar:
On Wednesday, four Army soldiers were killed and ten others were injured in a
highway accident in Jammu and Kashmir.
The
accident took place in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday
evening when the driver lost control of the Army vehicle on the National
Highway in Jatwal.
A
defense spokesman said, “The vehicle which was on its way from Amritsar to
Akhnoor when it turned turtle.” The soldiers were on their way to a rifle
training drill. Traffic on the usually busy Pathankot-Jammu national highway
was halted for an hour after the accident.
Samba
District is a newly formed district in the Indian administered state of Jammu
and Kashmir. Before the formation of this district, the area now under the
district was part of Jammu district. Historically, Samba consists of 22 native
towns (also known as Mandi), each consist of a separate family. The district is
separated from the Jammu district by “Purmandal Bridge”. Muslims make up just
under 6 percent of total population according to 2001 India census.Samba town
is situated on the stream Basantar.
