Girl Molested In Train, Youths Beat Up Teacher As He Protests

Malda: In another shameful incident, a girl studying at a primary school in Jalpaiguri was allegedly molested and her teacher beaten up by two youths in the Teesta-Torsa Express late on Wednesday. The incident took place near Malda and no arrests have been made yet.
Police said the incident took place when the teacher, Shyam Sundar, was on his way from Kolkata to Jalpaiguri with a group of girl students. In his complaint, he alleged that the two youths — who are yet to be identified — boarded the train from Bardhaman and immediately started misbehaving with the girls. “In the train, the two youths moved to the area where the girls were sitting. Initially, they passed lewd comments but as the train moved towards Malda, they tried to forcefully sit on one girl and attempted to touch her inappropriately,” said a police officer.
After Shyam Sundar protested, the two youths started abusing him. Soon, they realised that the train wasn’t manned by any security personnel and started to beat up the teacher, the officer added. “Shyam Sundar suffered a serious head injury… The two youths got off at Nimaita train station in Murshidabad,” the officer said.
In his complaint, Sundar has alleged that there were no RPF personnel present at either the train or at the Malda railway station. When contacted, IC of Malda GRP, Krishnagopal Dutta, said: “I have received the complaint. It has been transferred to the Samserjanj station in Murshidabad.”
