New Delhi: Following the clean chit by National Anti-Doping
Agency’s (NADA) disciplinary panel over doping allegation against wrestler
Narsingh Yadav, today the wrestler met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Reports are that PM Modi has ‘asked him to focus on winning
laurels for the country at the Rio Olympics without any tension.’
Yadav, the 26-year-old wrestler was allowed on Monday by the
NADA panel to take part in the 74-kg freestyle category in the Rio Olympics. According
to reports, the decision by the agency is a first of its kind that said Yadav
was a ‘victim of sabotage.’
“We kept in mind that in the past, till June 2, none of his
samples were positive. It was inconceivable that one-time ingestion would be of
benefit. Therefore the panel is of the view that the one-time ingestion was not
intentional,” NADA DG Naveen Agarwal on Monday read out a statement which ended
the suspense of the last few days’ turmoil.
Following the decision, Narsingh said: “I thank the public,
media, and everyone who supported me and stood by the front.” “This has been
the toughest fight of my life. I want to forget the entire episode now and
solely focus on winning a medal at the Olympics,” he added.
Following a routine test, which collected Yadav’s sample for
test on June 5, disclosed a few weeks ago that it has tested positive. Since
then, Narsingh has been allegedly claiming that he was framed. With the doping
confusion on-board, the United World Wrestling unveiled Praveen Rana’s name as
a replacement in the 74-kg category.
