Los Angeles: Finding Dory
has turned into an ocean full with profits, as within three-days of its
release, the Pixar animation movie collected $136.2 million in theaters across
the world. This has made Finding Dory
the highest-grossing animated debut of all time, a new record for an animated
film in its opening day.
Reports are that Shrek
the Third, released on 2007, was the previous record holder. Shrek the Third collected $121.6 million
in its debut. With series of records in its pocket, Finding Dory is also the second-largest film released on June, with
Jurassic World holding the No.1
place.
Finding Dory is a
sequel of Finding Nemo, which came 13
years ago. According to sources, film analysts expected Finding Dory to collect
$100 million in its opening day, but $136.2 million surprised them. Plus, Pixar
experienced an awful collection last year, when Toy Story, The Incredibles and The
Good Dinosaur suffered at box office. “It's amazing when you look at the
longevity of this brand, the viability of it, and the unfettered enthusiasm
pretty much everyone has for Pixar,” said a senior media analyst from comScore.
Finding Dory
caters on a blue-colored tang fish that have a problem with its memory, she
forgets almost everything. After Finding
Nemo, where the search was for Nemo by his father, this time, it’s Dory who
is on for a journey for her long lost parents.
Finding Dory did
most of its robust business on Friday and Saturday late night shows. Disney
distribution chief Dave Hollis said: “We became a film for everybody, we tapped
into something really meaningful,” while noting the film ‘was gearing up for a
run for the ages.’
With Finding Dory in
the first place after this week, Central
Intelligence, slipped to the second position, shifting The Conjuring 2 in the third place in the box office hit-list. The Conjuring 2 was in the first
position at last weekend.
