ICC World T20 – West Indies Lifts Trophy In Both Men’s And Women’s Category

Kolkata: On Sunday, the West Indies men’s and women’s team each lifted the ICC World T20 trophy at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, becoming the first country to win both the titles in the same year.
The women’s final took place first, where West Indies took on three-time reigning champion Australia. Winning the toss, Australia elected to bat first. Elyse Villani and Meghann Lanning were the highest scorers for Australia both scoring half-centuries (52 runs). Deandra Dottin took two wickets for West Indies. At the end of 20 overs, Australia scored 148 runs off five wickets.
At the West Indies innings, Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor were the highest scorers with 66 and 59 runs respectively. Rene Farrell and Kristen Beams both took one wicket each for Australia. West Indies scored 149 runs off two wickets in 19.3 overs. Sunday’s win marked the first win of the trophy for the West Indies women.
Matthews was named ‘Player Of The Match’, while Taylor was named ‘Player Of The Series’. Taylor scored the most runs in this year’s ICC World T20 with 246 runs.
Moments later, the West Indies men faced off the English men. Both were one-time winners.  West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. Joe root was England’s highest scorer with 54 runs. Dwayne Bravo and Carlos Brathwaite took three wickets each for West Indies. At the end of 20 overs, England scored 155 runs off nine wickets.
In the second innings, Marlon Samuels was West Indies’ highest scorer with 85 runs, falling 15 runs shy of a century. David Willey took three wickets for England. West Indies’ men scored 161 runs off six wickets in 19.4 overs to win their second ICC World T20 title.
Samuels was named ‘Player Of The Match’, while Indian cricketer Virat Kohli was named ‘Player Of The Series’.

The next edition of ICC World T20 will take place in 2018 for women in West Indies and in 2020 for men in Australia. West Indies clearly could not have asked for more and this high is likely to be matched by any other feat in cricket.
