ICC Women's World T20 - West Indies Beats New Zealand By 6 Runs To Reach Finals

Mumbai: In the second semi-finals match of 2016 ICC World T20, West Indies defeated New Zealand by seven wickets at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Thursday to reach the finals, while eliminating New Zealand from the tournament.
West Indies opener Hayley Matthews scored a quick 16 off 14 balls with two eloquent boundaries and provided the momentum to the team before getting leg before wicket to Morna Nielsen. Britney Cooper was West Indies’ highest scorer with 61 runs. Sophie Devine took four wickets for New Zealand. West Indies scored 143 runs off six wickets at the end of the innings.
Chasing a challenging target of 143, New Zealand got off to a disappointing start as West Indies pacer Shamilia Connell cleaned up opener Rachel Priest (6 runs) in the second over. From there on, Devine (22 runs) and skipper Suzie Bates (12 runs) held on by playing sensibly to help team post 42 runs for one in the batting powerplay. Deandra Dottin uprooted the stumps at the non-striker’s end forcing Devine to head back to the pavilion in the seventh over. Sara McGlashan was New Zealand’s highest scorer at 38 runs. Stephanie Taylor took three wickets for New Zealand. At the end of the innings, New Zealand scored 137 runs off eight wickets.
West Indies will now face three time and current champion Australia on April 3 at the finals at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
