Four More Arrested In Kolkata Flyover Collapse Case

Kolkata: The police arrested four more people in connection with the Kolkata flyover collapse case on Monday, taking the total number of arrests to eight.


Debashish Boral, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), said: “We have arrested four more officials of the company (IVCRL) today (Monday).”
The four people arrested are the officers of the Hyderabad- based construction company in-charge of building the Vivekanda Road flyover. The names have been revealed as Gopal Krishna Murti, Director Operations, SK Ratnam, Deputy General Manager Projects and engineers Shyamal Manna and Bidyut Manna.
Slapping charges including that of murder against the company, the police had earlier arrested Tanmoy Sil of AGM Projects, IVRCL, from Burdwan when he was trying to flee and three other officials— Mallika Arjun, senior AGM, Pradip Kumar Saha, Manager Structural VRF and Debojyoti Majumdar, Assistant Manager Administration.
Police have registered a case against the construction firm and sealed its office in the city. Another Assistant vice-president of PMC, Ranajit Bhattacharjee, who was injured and now hospitalized after Thursday's mishap, is also under police scanner.
A senior police officer said a police team visited the company's head office in Hyderabad after the collapse and six IVRCL officers were served notice. Among them, Krishnamurthy, Ratnam and Assistant vice-president of PMC, A N Dilip, arrived in the city and were questioned.
A portion of a Vivekananda flyover near Ganesh Talkies in Girish Park collapsed on the afternoon of March 31 leaving 27 dead and over 150 people injured.
