7 Killed In Naxal Attack In Chhattisgarh

Raipur: In the latest Naxal attack, a powerful landmine blast in a truck in Dantewada’s Melawada village in Chhattisgarh killed seven Central Railway Parel Workshop (CRPW) jawans on Wednesday.
The Naxalites looted the weapons in the truck after exploding the mine which left a massive four feet crater in the road, a deadly pointer of the amount of explosives used.
Speaking on the incident, Chhattisgarh Home Minister Ajay Chandrakar said, “It was a major lapse on part of forces to move without uniform and arms. This is violation of rules where soldiers should not move in sensitive areas unprepared.” “We will investigate why this carelessness occurred,” he further added.
The truck carrying the CRPF jawans hit the landmine as it travelled through the forested and remote Dantewada district, 354kms south of the capital, Raipur.
Sadanand Date, Inspector General of CRPF, Chhattisgarh said the camp where the jawans were headed had been set up two months ago, and the area had seen many successful operations since then. “Since the 230 battalion was put in place, there have been many successes such as arrests and surrenders, and it is an area where the situation was improving,” he added.
The seven men have been identified as Vijay Raj, Pradeep Tirkey, Ranjan Das, Devendra Chaurasia, K Darshu, J Rajendra and the driver Nana Udayveer Singh. “Their bodies were brought to Jagdalpur at night and will most likely be taken to Raipur early Thursday morning,” a senior police officer said.

Dantewada, part of the mineral rich Bastar region, has long been a Naxal stronghold area.
